A major blow to the finances of the Gulf Clan in Chocó was achieved in a joint and coordinated operation between the National Army, the National Navy, the Colombian Air Force and the National Police, with support from the C.T.I of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The three-day military and police offensive on the Atrato, Quito and San Pablo rivers allowed the seizure and destruction of 20 machines between excavators and dredgers, as well as five engines that were being used in the illegal exploitation of deposits miners.
This material was found in nine mines that were intervened by the authorities, affecting in a decisive way the finances of the Organized Armed Group "Clan of the Gulf", in front of "Roads", who suffered losses for more than 12,600 million pesos with the destruction of that one machinery.
Likewise, this result allows the public forces to minimize the environmental damage caused by the contamination of rivers, which was produced by the use of chemical elements such as mercury and cyanide, which are highly dangerous for humans and animal species .
In addition, this operation neutralizes the deforestation of more than 60 hectares of forest per week that was being caused by this illegal armed group, seriously and irreversibly affecting the natural and water resources of the region.
So far this year, in the department of Chocó, more than 100 machines have been destroyed between dredgers and bulldozers, from organizations outside the law, significantly affecting the illicit economies that they resort to as the main method of financing .
The Joint Task Force Titan and the National Police will continue to carry out sustained operations against all criminal phenomena that attempt to commit crime in the jurisdiction, in order to guarantee the tranquility of the population and the protection of all their property.
