Industrial warn of risks in business climate due to lag in party law


The Association of Industrial Companies of Herrera and Province Santo Domingo (AEIH) warned Sunday that the lag in electoral and political party reform is a high risk for the stability of the business climate and the generation of jobs.

The president of the entity, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, said that party systems, political and electoral groups without rules that reinforce the controls and the frameworks of action, are a danger for the democratic, institutional sustainability and the trust that motivates the investment flows , says a press release.

He recalled that the most influential factors for the Dominican Republic to recede this year 12 positions in the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum, are related to corruption and institutional weaknesses.

He pointed out that unregulated political actions duly entail "dramatic hidden costs to operate companies, with a negative impact on the rules of the game and, of course, on competitiveness." He pointed out that factors hurt the business environment and the attraction of investment generating jobs

In that context, the business leader expressed the urgent need for the country to end the reservoir of corruption that implies a political exercise not subject to norms, controls and a system of consequences.

The president of the AEIH called for unlocking the bills of parties, political groups and the electoral system, giving priority to establishing a consensus for its approval, without accommodation to specific political interests or a single party.

"Democracy requires strong, regulated, ethical political institutions with a vocation of service to society, where internal promotions are based on accumulated merits and not from money or from a Persian market where everything is bought and sold "Said Taveras Guzmán.
