The German group Kardex announced its arrival in the country, in order to directly serve its customers. But also, from here, it will begin its expansion in Central America and South America.
This company, with 1,480 employees, is engaged in the manufacture of comprehensive automatic storage systems and computer aided order preparation systems. It has 137 years of existence and is present in 27 countries.
In the region, it has had presence through distributors to attend its logistics solutions to companies in the automotive, aeronautical, mining, pharmaceutical, health and beauty, textile and industrial sectors, among others. In the country, specifically, it has clients in the industrial, food, pharmaceutical and distribution sectors.
"Not only in Colombia, but in the region, there is an opportunity to generate value in large and medium-sized companies. That's why we want to teach organizations the importance of managing intralogistics, storage, order management and enlistment as a strategic area for the business, "said Paola Quiroga, new business manager for Kardex Remstar.
He added that, at the end of this year, he will open in Chile and Brazil. By 2020, it foresees some 9 million euros in sales and a growth of between 20% and 30%.
Quiroga explained that they put their eyes on Colombia because of the image they have at the international level in the sense that it gives guarantees to foreign investors, but also because of the interest that exists in the logistics issue.
In fact, in the World Bank Logistics Performance Index, between 2007 and 2016, it went from 15 to 12 among 18 countries.
However, there is a long way to go, as there is still a lack of tracking and tracing of goods, poor competition and quality of logistics services, and lack of infrastructure, according to Kardex's diagnosis. The growth of electronic commerce represents a major challenge for the future.
