Meade is recognized as Finance Minister of the Year in Latin America

Mexico's finance minister, Jose Antonio Meade, was recognized today by Capital Markets magazine as Latin America's Finance Minister of the Year for his management in times of crisis.

"A calm head, strong condition and capabilities and an ability to act economically on short-term policies have helped Minister Meade distinguish himself from the rest," said John Sinclair, managing director of the Global Capital Group, which publishes the magazine .

Sinclair said that thanks to this work, "Mexico is now in a better position (economic) with a view to the elections next year."

The undersecretary of finance, Vanessa Rubio, was the one who accepted the recognition on behalf of the official.

Rubio said that if Meade had received the award in person, "I think I would have said that this is an acknowledgment of the economic and financial policies of President (of Mexico, Enrique) Peña Nieto in these five years of government."

He added that he would also have extended it to the staff of the Ministry of Finance "and I am sure he would have dedicated this recognition to the good people of Mexico, who have shown unity, resistance, strength, compassion and solidarity during these recent difficult times."
