The quake did not affect consumer confidence; up 6% a year during September


During the month of September, the Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) recorded a 1% increase at a seasonally adjusted monthly rate; consumer optimism rose 6% annually, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) said on Thursday.

INEGI reported that within the ICC, which is working jointly with the Bank of Mexico, in September last year registered seasonal increases in its five components.

In the ninth month of this year, the component corresponding to the opinion on the economic situation of the members of the household compared to that they had 12 months ago increased 1.8% in relation to August, the statistical agency said.

On the other hand, the item that evaluates the expectation on the economic situation within 12 months compared to that of today presented a monthly increase of 0.7% and grew 6.4% in September compared to the same month last year.

The variable that measures the perception of the consumers about the economic situation of the country compared with the one that prevailed a year ago grew 1.4% in its monthly comparison. While the indicator that captures expectations about the country's economic condition expected within a year from the current situation showed a monthly variation of 0.1 percent.

Finally, the component regarding opinion on the current possibilities compared to September 2016, to make purchases of durable goods, such as furniture, TV, washing machine and other household appliances rose by 2.2% compared to the level of August and 8.2 percent annually.

The National Survey on Consumer Confidence is carried out during the first 20 days of each month in 32 cities that comprise all of the country's federal entities, and is based on a sample of 2,336 urban dwellings nationwide.

On the other hand, the total of goods and services of national origin grew 2.4%, by segment, goods 0.9% and services 3.9%.
Meanwhile, imported goods repeated double-digit June growth of 11.9%, its best value so far this year, and since November 2012 (12.9 percent).
